I’ve tried writing this a few times and I have deleted all of them so here are the facts…

1. I’m not a natural runner and never will be
2. I’m not a PT or have any experience in fitness or nutrition
3. I’m a mummy to 2 very active girls
4. I love crisps and liquid treats at the weekend

So why am I telling you this? Well Solemother has been around for a while now and I think some people are still not sure what we are about.

We are not a running group in the normal sense but lots of our Solemothers do run. Lots of us started on the couch to 5k program and have used the supportive community to keep us motivated.

When I say ‘run’ this brings me #1 of the facts.

The Solemother Hood has 900 Solemothers. Some of us run, some of us walk and some of us do everything but run!

Running came into my life as the only thing that I could fit in! No, I do not know what I’m doing. Yes I am winging it and no I don’t always enjoy it!

But what it has done is bring hundreds of amazing women into my life. Women that actually believe in supporting each other, take time to motivate and celebrate each other’s achievements.

Should you give it a go? Yes! Why not? But it doesn’t have to be running. It can be anything that gets and keeps you moving.

I can’t advise you on the correct gear, stretches or best foods to eat (#2) but in the same way you can ask ‘Google’ you can ask the Hood! We have so many talented and knowledgeable Solemothers who are always happy to share their thoughts and ideas.

Now to dispel the myth … YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A MOTHER TO BE A SOLEMOTHER!

It’s just the name and initially this group started with a group of mums from my daughter’s school (#3). That’s where it ends. All women are welcome.

Yes, there is a HUGE range of abilities in the Hood but our marathon runners and those that have completed week 1 run 1 on the couch to 5k are celebrated in equal measure.

Running can be taken VERY seriously but that’s just not us.

We all have our reasons to get active, maybe it is to lose weight, improve mental health, for medical reasons or to meet new people. There is just no reason why you need to do that alone when there is an amazing community of Solemothers waiting to help you achieve your goals.

#4 is just fact
